Workshops & Specialty Classes

In addition to our regular group classes, we offer a variety of classes that have a special focus. Our therapeutic courses are designed to help with specific conditions. Our Therapeutic Yoga course offers a space for those new to yoga to learn the postures, practice appropriate modifications, and learn the benefits of the poses. Our workshops focus on yogic techniques that help the practitioner explore the alternative and deeper aspects of yoga in classes that are generally 1 ½- 3 hours in length.

Therapeutic Yoga

Taught by: Roger Lagasse, certified yoga teacher; trained in structural yoga therapy
Every Wednesday; 6:00pm-7:15pm
6-week class series; $72 for 6 weeks; $13 for Drop In

Therapeutic Yoga is for anyone just starting out with yoga or for those who have ongoing muscular pain or tension requiring special attention. Appropriate for those who like a gentle to moderate class, this class is taught by instructors versed in Structural Yoga, a style of yoga focused on adapting yoga to an individual's body  and specific needs. The theme of the class often focuses around strengthening the back, and releasing tension in the neck and shoulders. The Therapeutic Yoga class format consists of many simple yoga exercises to improve range of motion of the joints, gentle yoga postures adapted to suit the individuals in class, relaxing and rejuvenating breathing instruction, and guided deep relaxation.

Therapeutic Yoga suitable for beginners as well as more seasoned yoga practitioners who seek to revisit and explore the poses that comprise the foundation of any yoga practice. Great for those wanting a guided gentler yoga experience.

For beginners or those restarting a dormant practice, we recommend the 6-week program. The consistent and persistent guided class work will firmly establish a solid foundation on which to build your yoga practice.

Lower Back Care Through Therapeutic Yoga
Taught by: Karla Geoffroy, certified Structural Yoga Therapist and back care specialist.
Every Tuesday; 6:00pm-7:15pm
6-week class series. $72 for 6 weeks; $13 for Drop In
Pre-registration is requested for those enrolling in the 6-week program.

Lower Back Care Through Therapeutic Yoga class format varies depending upon the needs of the individuals in the class.  Most classes consist of yoga postures and therapeutic movements that will strengthen the lower back and abdomen, and improve the flexibility in the hips.  Students who have more specific needs like sacroiliac issues or scoliosis, may be given some postures adapted specifically for those needs.

Lower Back Care Through Therapeutic Yoga focuses more specifically on the hips, sacrum, and lower back.  It is suitable for students wanting a yoga class that focuses on back health, those who have herniated disk (s) and have completed physical therapy and/or have physician approval to begin a gentle yoga practice, sciatic pain, scoliosis, sacroiliac pain or sensitivity, hip tightness and back weakness.

Students in good physical health, or longtime yoga practitioners, can also enjoy this class for its focus on back heath and for the many modifications that can be made to make the postures more simple or challenging, matching the needs of each particular student.

REFLECTIVE YOGA - On & Off The Mat
Taught by: Kathy Niedzielski (RYT)
Sundays, 9:30am-10:45am
$13 drop in rate, or use your class card.

Leveraging Kathy's extraordinary talents, Sunday Reflective Yoga will be a deeper practice to engage both our outer and inner being. While recognizing numerous physical and stress reduction benefits we derive from our yoga practice, yoga has a contemplative aspect as well. Sunday Reflective Yoga emphasizes both the physical and mental/spiritual sides of yoga. An hour-long physical practice is followed by a 20-minute reflective segment. Using different techniques - readings of texts with reflection, guided visualizations, breath work meditations - we will explore our thoughts and experiences, and release our creativity. Discussions and sharing are always welcome, but never required. Awaken your inner being and carry your practice off the mat, letting it be present in everyday life.
