4 Reasons to Attend a Gentle Yoga Workshop

April 24, 2018

If you're like most of our students, you attend Gentle Yoga classes at Valley Yoga on a regular basis (Gentle classes at VY are larger than other class types by 30-40%!). So if you're getting 2-4 doses of gentle medicine per week, why would you consider attending the Gentle Yoga for Healthy Joints + Yoga Nidra workshop this Saturday? Well, here are 4 reasons to start:

Workshops are Different From Classes. We've written about this in a previous blog post, but a workshop like this Saturday's is NOT just a 2.5 hour yoga class. While we will certainly practice lots of yoga, the actual practice time is not likely to be too much longer than a regular 75-minute class. A lot of workshop time is spent on explanation, demonstration, discussion, and q&a, allowing you to go much further in your understanding of the poses than is practical in a regular class. So if you've ever left a gentle yoga class wondering why something was done, or why it felt so good (or so not good), a workshop is a great opportunity to explore these questions and get your questions answered.

Healthy Joints. Saturday's Gentle Yoga Workshop is specifically focused on healthy joints, so we'll spend a lot of time talking about and experiencing movements related to the knees, hips, and shoulders specifically. If you experience any joint-related issues, spending time specifically addressing the anatomy and movements of these joints is extremely beneficial. We'll also be moving through the joints in ways that are different from what you may have done in your weekly classes, which can give you new poses and shapes to introduce into your home practice or modifications to take in your favorite gentle classes.

Pam Schulte. We love our VY Gentle Yoga teachers! But every once in awhile, it's a great idea to integrate teachings from a different instructor who brings new experience and knowledge to the practice. In this case, we've invited Pam Schulte, one of the most highly-regarded trainers in the St. Louis area, to lead this workshop. In addition to training our own Dani Glassman in both her 200- and 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training programs, Pam is well-known as the "teachers' teacher" throughout the

area. Pam has been teaching yoga in St Louis for 20 years and has experience with students of all ages and abilities. She is a 500-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, and a Certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She has a passion for making yoga attainable and accessible; and has seen firsthand the amazing ability of yoga to transform students physically, mentally, and spiritually. Her workshops are designed to give students skills they can use on their own in order to lead a more balanced life. Pam has a lighthearted approach that encourages curiosity and a sense of exploration.

Two Words: Yoga Nidra. If you haven't yet experienced both the pleasure and the benefits of Yoga Nidra, this is your chance. And if you have tried Yoga Nidra before, then you know that a 30-minute nidra at the end of practice is heaven on earth. You can read more about what Yoga Nidra is in this blog post, as well as 5 reasons to try it here
